Hi I'm Shellie, welcome to YOGAVANA 

CLASSES

 My classes are breath-centered and suitable for all. The content encompasses the principles of Yin and Yang, cultivating balance and harmony in both the body and mind. Drawing influence from both traditional Indian Hatha yoga principles and the eastern principles of Yin yoga.  My classes include flowing vinyasa, asana & alignment work, pranayama, deep stretches and relaxation. The overall aim is to offer you a chance to create your own body-mind connection. The foundation of your practice combines the physical with an inner journey. By integrating body, breath, movement, and meditative awareness, I strive to promote an understanding of the inter-dependency of all these aspects in personal health and well-being.

A little about my own practice... Some years ago I developed ME (also known as chronic fatigue syndrome).  Having always had an interest in yoga I began to research how my own practice could help in my recovery. Unlike other physical activity the right types of yoga had an extremely positive effect on my body and mind. In particular the more classic & restorative practices.  This inspired me to train as a yoga instructor and I feel blessed to have had a life changing experience qualifying 2oohrYTT in India under the amazing guidance of Jeevmoksha Gurukul. I then went on to attain my Yin yoga teaching qualification with Arhanta yoga school, Madhya Pradesh, india,  I've since acquired a further 265 hours of study. 

 

Having experienced the difference yoga can have on health and well-being I hope that my experience will help others to see their own inner and outer strength develop and grow.

BEDTIME YIN YOGA

Felxibility & Healing of Body & Mind

Yin focuses on gaining a powerful release by working with ligaments, joints and the body's deep connective tissue in order to help open and unblock energy. Each Yin class begins by centering and relaxing the mind with a short grounding meditation,  The Yin postures, are longer held floor based poses (usually around 3-5 mins) the body often supported with props. Yin is a great compliment to a more active practice or sports regime, but It is equally suited to those who are recovering from illness, live with chronic conditions and/or anxiety or as an antidote to the fast pace of life we live in.  Yin improves flexibility, reduces stress, improves joint mobility, increases circulation and the flow of energy through the body.   These are just a few of the benefits. The session completes with a short relaxation to allow the body to absorb the benefits of this wonderful practice, PREPARING THE BODY FOR A GREAT NIGHTS SLEEP.

Stretch Yoga Pose

Familiarity builds connection

A structured sequences to build familiarity. poses are broken down with lots of variations and adaptations for all body types.  Some parts of this sequence are the same on a weekly basis, such as the opening & closing Mantra, pranayama, body-scan relaxation and SUN SALUTATION A&B. THE ASANA PORTION OF THE PRACTICE CHANGES ON AN 8 WEEKLY BASIS.

When the postures become routine we can then focus on the breath, energy, locks, drishti (point of focus) and other aspects that will deepen our practice. THE PRACTICE THEN BECOMES MORE MEDITATIVE LIKE COUNTING THE BEADS ON A BEAUTIFUL STRING OF MALA'S

this is a great compliment to Yin and the slightly stronger Sunday class and an ideal place to start your practice or deepen your connection to yoga.

Flow of Breath & Movement

This creative sequence  honours the many aspects of yoga to create an holistic practice that honours the body, mind and spirit.   through the gateway of the breath we will cultivate clarity of mind, and energy in our heart by weaving both form & flow (static poses & vinyasa) .

Sequences are constructed in such a way as to create healthy biomechanics & correct alignment  which supports strength , flexibility and vibrancy of the energetic body.   

 

When we combine meditation, pranayama, asana, philosophy, mantra and mudras  we assist the holistic journey and alchemical transition of the whole body. 

Some knowledge of yoga is beneficial - although class is all levels and variations for poses are always offered.
